The Lexus GS is not only one of the most affordable vehicles of its kind, but it’s also a comfortable and refined vehicle. In addition, it’s spacious and gets good fuel economy. Unfortunately, despite all the improvements it has received over the years, the Lexus GS is still an ancient vehicle in its segment, and it is beginning to show its age. The Lexus GS, however, is still a great all-rounder and is worth your consideration.

Exterior Design
Despite having one of the oldest cabin designs in the class, the 2022 Lexus GS is still a nice car to drive long distances in. Although vehicles such as the Volvo S90 and Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedans have made significant improvements to their game, the Lexus GS’s interior is still a nice car to drive long distances in.
The overall space available for both the driver and passengers is good, although not class-leading. The Lexus GS offers a remarkable amount of space, except for a small amount of headroom for passengers in the rear seats (6-footers will find the Volvo S90 more accommodating). However, the seats are well-padded, so long journeys should not be a problem with the Lexus GS.
The Lexus GS may make it challenging to transport five people’s luggage. Although the Lexus GS’s cargo capacity is 14.3 cubic feet, comparable to the Audi A6’s 14.1 cubic foot space, it still trails the Jaguar XF at 17.8 cubic feet. The trunk opening is large and can hold four sets of golf clubs. However, it isn’t profound. Hybrid models have only 13.2 cubic feet of storage space due to the location of the battery packs.
The Lexus GS is really on the back foot because the rear seats cannot be folded down. This makes it impossible to expand the cargo area and carry more oversized items. Although Lexus may have gained some ground with its large door bins and cubby spots in the center, they aren’t able to do enough to make up for that particular oversight.

The Lexus GS is most convincing on the open road.
Although the Lexus GS may not be as comfortable as a Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Volvo S90, or Volvo S90, it is remarkably composed at higher speeds and on rougher roads. This makes it an excellent choice for buyers who spend a lot of time driving on the highways. It also doesn’t have excessive wind noise or tire roar, which emphasizes its laid-back nature. Although visibility is generally good, it’s not as good as ride quality or refinement. As we’ve mentioned already, the forward visibility is good, and a large-by-class-standards rear window is also handy. The Lexus GS has some blind spots, as with most executive sedans. The 2.0-liter engine is a refined, smooth powerplant that suits Lexus GS’s personality well. It has a widespread torque over most of its rev range, which means you don’t have to push the engine as hard when increasing speed. The 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine is the smallest in the Lexus GS lineup. Nevertheless, it claims to be one of the most fuel-efficient sedans in its class, with a claimed economy figure of 22 mpg in city driving and 33 mpg highway.
Be aware that the F-Sport spec engine can reduce city and highway economy by a mere two- and three-miles-per-gallon, respectively. Therefore, a 3.5-liter six-cylinder gasoline engine is next in line. This will appeal to buyers who prefer the Lexus GS’s punch. Although it is debatable whether the larger engine is better than the 2.0-liter at $4,385, the 3.5-liter six-cylinder gasoline engine has more straight-line speed due to the 311-hp power output and the 280 lb-ft torque, which gives the Lexus GS marginally more pulling power throughout the rev range.
It’s smooth and refined like all Lexus engines. The claimed fuel economy of 20mpg city/29mpg on the highway for rear-wheel-drive cars, 19mpg in the city/27mpg on the road when all-wheel drive is installed, is quite good, even by six-cylinder executive sedan standards. Even more surprising, many of the standard items on the Lexus GS can be purchased as optional extras. For example, a $50,200 BMW 5 Series entry-level car becomes a $55,150 Lexus GS model when adding all the optional gear the Lexus receives as standard. The $50,695 3.5-liter model comes with a few extra features. However, the larger 12.3-inch infotainment screen (other Lexus GS models have the smaller 8-inch display) and built-in navigation make it worth upgrading to. Even though the hybrid model is not available as a standard feature, the hybrid model costs $63,635. However, the hybrid’s standard-fit dual-zone climate control is a welcome addition. We wouldn’t recommend that you choose Lexus over the leading competitors.
